At VIVA Beauty Clinic we use a particular form of facial Acupuncture Technique drawn from Oriental wisdom and our modern understanding of the musculature of the face.
The way it works is two-fold. In Oriental wisdom the body is nourished by a network of meridians that act as channels for the flow of Qi, (energy )and blood. The meridians flow from the feet to the face. In our treatments fine Acupuncture needles are inserted into the face and the body. This approach regulates Qi and blood flow systematically, bringing about more lasting results.
The Science
Needling the face stimulates a local histamine reaction, which promotes the flow of nutrients to the cells. This in turn stimulates fibroblasts which can increase collagen output.
The needles also stimulate the muscles, which are either toned or relaxed depending on your individual situation.

What Happens during a Treatment
It may be a good idea to wear loose clothing as we may need to treat the abdomen and leg area. A skin assessment is followed by a series of questions to uncover what you would like to focus on and to understand your constitutional make up.
Firstly needles are placed in the body to treat constitutional imbalances and start circulating Qi and blood throughout the body. Facial Treatment starts with a cleanse and tone followed by an exfoliation using PEVONIA Botanica. Jade rollers are used to call forth Yin to nourish the face.
Acupuncture is then carried out. Then the needles are placed in the face. This two-stage approach maximises the flow of Qi and blood to the face, to nourish and to treat problems such as wrinkles, discolouration and loss of tone.
After the needles are removed a facial massage takes place to further help stimulate collagen and elastin production. A PEVONIA Botanica creamy mask is applied to nourish and hydrate the skin. After the face mask is removed a high quality PEVONIA Botanica moisturiser is applied to further revitalise the skin and the face is massaged. Jade rollers are once more used to call forth Yin and further nourish the face.
How long is a course of Treatments?
Constitutional Facial Acupuncture involves you in an organic process, in which a series of treatments is necessary to achieve maximum effect.
After an initial session, we evaluate your response, and then can determine the number of follow up visits that will be required. After this evaluation, and taking into consideration other variables such as stress, life style, diet, genetic inheritance, proper digestion and elimination, sleep, emotional balance and age, the following durations of treatment are usually recommended:
• 10 Treatments once or twice a week for 90 minutes
• Up to 20 Treatments for smokers or people whose skin tends to sag that is people who manifest jowls, droopy eyes or turkey neck
Maintenance Treatments
Within normal parameters of aging, the completion of a series should be effective. To ensure persistence of the results, ongoing maintenance treatments are recommended:
• Every 2 weeks for two months following completion of a Treatment series, then once a month for maintenance for an indefinite time period.
What does it feel like?
People who have had Plastic Surgery or Botox injections say Facial Acupuncture is a much more enjoyable experience. Insertion of the needles is fairly painless. You may feel a slight sensation for a microsecond.
Some people may feel nervous at the start but soon, most drift off into a relaxing state. Once the needles are in, the face may feel tingly.
